The United States will compete at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup for a third consecutive time after completing an undefeated qualifying campaign in the Cayman Islands.
Captain Chetna Pagydyala’s team won all six of its matches at the 2026 Americas Qualifier. The USA finished six points ahead of Canada and secured the region’s qualification place for the 2027 global tournament.
The result is an important milestone for American girls cricket. It confirms that the United States has a competitive youth team capable of performing consistently against regional opposition. It also gives young female players across the country a visible international destination to pursue.
Six Matches, Six Victories
The qualifier brought together the United States, Canada, Argentina and an ICC NextGen XI composed of players from across the Americas region.
The USA completed the tournament without a defeat:
- Two victories over Canada
- Two victories over Argentina
- Two victories over the ICC NextGen XI
The USA represented the region at the 2023 and 2025 tournaments. This time the place was earned through an on-field Americas regional qualifier.
USA Tournament Results
The summary below reflects what we could verify through the official ICC qualification report. ESPNcricinfo published a news story on the qualification but does not carry ball-by-ball scorecards for this tournament, so individual match scores we could not confirm are marked accordingly rather than estimated.
| Match | Opponent | USA | Opponent score | Result |

Match order follows the ICC report, which describes the first Canada fixture as the opening day at Jimmy Powell Oval and a second Canada fixture closing the tournament.
Mahek Desai Leads the Bowling Attack
Mahek Desai collected 16 wickets in six matches and finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. She was named Player of the Tournament.
Her wicket-taking was central to the undefeated run. A side that wins every match in a short tournament usually has a bowler who can break a partnership on demand, and Desai was that bowler throughout.
It is also a useful reminder for American youth cricket that specialist bowlers deserve the same development attention as batters. Wickets win qualifiers.
Captain Chetna Pagydyala Guides the USA
Pagydyala captained the undefeated side. She played at the 2025 Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and has also represented the United States at senior level.
Her path is worth noting for families weighing up whether age-group cricket leads anywhere. A player can compete at an Under-19 World Cup and appear in senior international cricket in the same period. The two are not separate tracks.
Saanvi Immadi Supports a Powerful Spin Attack
In the Canada victory highlighted by the ICC, Saanvi Immadi and Mahek Desai each took three wickets. Canada were held to 65 for 7, and the USA completed the chase inside 11 overs to win by eight wickets.
Two bowlers taking three wickets apiece in the same innings points to depth rather than a single match-winner — the kind of attack that does not depend on one player having a good day.
Meet the USA U19 Women
The complete official USA roster for the 2026 Americas Qualifier was not available through the approved sources reviewed for this article. USA Youth Cricket will add the full team list when it is confirmed by the ICC, USA Cricket or an official tournament scorecard.
The ICC qualification report confirms the involvement of three players:
- Chetna Pagydyala — captain
- Mahek Desai — leading wicket-taker and Player of the Tournament
- Saanvi Immadi — bowler
These three are not the complete squad.
Building on the 2025 World Cup
At the 2025 Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup the USA advanced to the Super Six stage and stayed competitive against established cricket nations. In one match they restricted New Zealand to 97 before losing by 18 runs.
Qualification gives the next group a chance to build on that. Whether the same players return is a separate question — squads change over two years, and no 2027 selection has been announced.
A Third Consecutive World Cup Appearance
The USA has now reached the 2023, 2025 and 2027 editions.
There is a meaningful difference between the earlier appearances and this one. In 2023 and 2025 the USA went as the Americas representative. This time the place was won on the field, across six matches, against three opponents.
That said, a strong national team does not mean the domestic girls’ pathway is complete. National-team success and local access are different problems, and the second one is harder. A family in a city with no girls’ program does not benefit from a World Cup place on its own.
What This Means for Girls Cricket in America
International qualification matters most if it creates more opportunities below the national team. Practical priorities for programs:
- Welcome girls into beginner and mixed youth programs
- Provide appropriate hard-ball training as players develop
- Organize girls-only clinics, matches and festival days
- Recruit more women coaches and officials
- Publish registration and contact information clearly
- Connect players with verified regional and national opportunities
- Publish official selection information instead of relying on WhatsApp messages or word of mouth
The USA’s qualification proves that an international destination exists. The next challenge is making the starting point easier for every family to find.

What Comes Next
Bangladesh and Nepal will jointly host the 2027 tournament, per the ICC host announcement.
Still to be announced: the final USA squad, the tournament groups, and the complete match schedule. Current selection and trial details require official confirmation, and no player should be described as selected for 2027 until a final roster is published.
