College cricket series, part 1. This is the first in a series on where young cricketers can keep playing once they reach college. More campuses are coming, so keep an eye on our Parent Guides. Know a college with a cricket club? Email youthcricketusa@gmail.com and we’ll look into it.
Finishing U19 cricket does not have to mean putting the bat away when college begins. At the University of California, Irvine, the current fall club schedule offers a concrete example of how cricket can remain part of campus life.
UCI’s official cricket page lists Tuesday and Friday practices and describes a club that welcomes both experienced players and newcomers. It also describes intercollege friendlies and regional and national tournament participation. For families thinking beyond youth leagues, that combination makes the campus club route worth understanding.

Club Cricket Is Its Own Kind of College Sport
UCI distinguishes its Club Sports program from both varsity athletics and intramural play. Its clubs are student-led organizations that compete against other universities; intramurals organize competition within the campus community.
That distinction matters when a young cricketer researches colleges. Finding a cricket club tells a family there is an organized campus activity to investigate. It does not, by itself, establish a varsity recruiting offer or a scholarship.
UCI’s Club Sports FAQ says eligible university participants can join, while people without a university affiliation cannot. It also explains that clubs may use tryouts to select competition rosters. This is a campus opportunity, rather than an open youth class for local children.
A Welcome for Beginners Is Different From a Guaranteed Match Place
A club can welcome someone learning cricket while still selecting a smaller team for competitive travel. UCI’s general guidance makes that distinction, and students should ask the cricket officers how it applies this season.
Before registering, ask about the current joining process, experience groups, team selection and the time expected for training and travel. Confirm cricket-specific costs directly: the university notes that clubs may collect additional dues.
For a player leaving an academy or U19 team, the practical question is how to keep playing regularly alongside classes. For a newcomer, it is where to learn without assuming prior representative experience is required.
Southern California Already Has Intercollege Competition
A university-hosted account of UCLA Cricket’s earlier 2026 season documents participation in Collegiate Cricket League and National College Cricket Association tournaments. Its February regional results include matches against UC Irvine.
That is historical context, not a claim about this fall’s fixtures. It shows why checking a university club’s competition calendar can be as useful as finding its practice times. See UCLA’s published club account.
Start With the Campus, Then Confirm the Competition
Students interested in UCI should use the contact route on its official cricket page. Students considering another college should start with that institution’s recreation or club-sports directory and confirm its current program.
External competitions can have their own eligibility conditions. College cricket should not automatically be described as U23 cricket, and joining a campus club does not guarantee entry into every tournament.
For younger players still looking for local coaching, USA Youth Cricket’s California guide provides a separate starting point. The age-group guide explains why competition labels need checking with each organizer.
The next stage after youth cricket can be a team organized around campus life. Finding it starts with a current club page—and a conversation about how to take part.
More Colleges Coming
UC Irvine is the first campus in our college cricket series. We’ll add more colleges and universities with active cricket clubs, so check back on our Parent Guides page. If you know a college with a cricket club, or you’re a student running one, send the details to youthcricketusa@gmail.com and we’ll look into it.
USA Youth Cricket provides this information as an independent resource and is not affiliated with UC Irvine or UCLA. Program details and schedules may change. Please check the university’s official website and confirm eligibility, fees and participation details directly with the club before making plans.
