UIC Cricket: Indoor Tape-Ball, Outdoor Leather-Ball and a Place to Start

UIC Cricket: Indoor Tape-Ball, Outdoor Leather-Ball and a Place to Start

The University of Illinois Chicago publishes unusually practical cricket information: a club describing both indoor tape-ball and outdoor leather-ball activity, an indoor practice listing and a separate six-a-side intramural program. For a student choosing how to keep playing, those details are more useful than a team name alone.

The challenge is to read them accurately. A club practice listing without a term label needs reconfirmation. A university intramural season is not an intercollege tournament. And a winter indoor format should not be assumed to offer the same experience as outdoor leather-ball cricket.

Research note: The official club page and Fall 2026 intramural dates are verified as published information. Current club-session confirmation, open entry and a future competitive calendar remain unconfirmed.

A club that describes more than one kind of cricket

UIC’s official Cricket Club page describes competitive leather-ball and indoor tape-ball activity, friendly matches against other universities and a recreational purpose. It relates indoor play to fall and spring and outdoor leather-ball to summer. These are the club’s published descriptions, not a guaranteed schedule of fixtures or instruction.

For an experienced leather-ball player, the distinction invites questions about outdoor training and selected matches. For someone new to the sport, indoor activity may be a route to investigate. Ask what the club can offer now rather than assuming that every format is available every week.

The practice listing is a starting point, not a booking

The same page lists Tuesday and Thursday sessions from 9 to 11 p.m. at the Student Recreation Facility MAC Gym. It does not identify a semester beside those times. Treat them as published arrangements to confirm directly, not a walk-in invitation for any particular date.

Late sessions can affect a student’s ordinary week. Ask about the actual end time, access requirements and how to reach the facility after evening classes or from home. We have not verified an outdoor cricket ground, a current summer booking or transport for matches away from campus.

UIC’s sport-club directory independently lists cricket among its active clubs. That reinforces the institutional listing without resolving a particular session’s availability or a newcomer’s selection status.

Six-a-side intramurals have their own calendar

The Fall 2026 intramural page lists Indoor Cricket in the Fall II program. Registration opened October 1 and its published deadline was October 22. The listed regular season runs October 25 through November 19. As of October 28, the deadline has passed and that season has begun.

Do not interpret the continuing registration link as proof that cricket registration remains open. Students can ask the intramural office about current team-entry rules, any permitted addition to a roster or the next season. None of those possibilities was independently confirmed for this guide.

The intramural program welcomes the university community under its published eligibility rules. Club membership and selection for an external leather-ball event are different matters. Choosing the route first helps avoid completing the wrong registration process.

Find the current route without relying on old student details

UIC’s club page links @cricketclubatuic and other club channels. Student leadership can change, so use the current university page rather than a copied officer contact from an old guide. Its sport-club directory publishes the program’s staff contact, manningj@uic.edu, for joining inquiries and assistance.

The intramural page separately publishes intramuralsports@uic.edu. Tell the relevant office whether you want a club introduction, indoor recreational play or information about competition. Include your enrollment status and playing interests; request the current approved procedure before submitting personal documents elsewhere.

Links to competitions are not a verified match list

The club page includes links to its cricket platforms and a CASO league team. Those links show where the club directs readers for additional information. They do not, without checking the season and team identity, establish a current squad, result or forthcoming match.

This guide therefore does not announce a trophy, national title or new tournament entry. Ask the club which competitions are active and what is available to members outside a selected match team. A clear answer matters more than treating every historical link as an opportunity available this semester.

Examine the degree that interests you

UIC’s undergraduate degree directory includes computer science, data science and mechanical engineering, as well as subjects across its other colleges. The data-science program lists several concentrations. Use the actual program requirements to understand how a subject is structured rather than assuming that similarly named degrees have identical workloads.

Discuss required classes and practical work with an advisor, then compare them with confirmed cricket commitments. Students may give competitive cricket, recreational play and academic goals different priorities. The sources do not establish special academic accommodations for club cricketers.

Find the right academic support

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ student-support directory links to the Math and Science Learning Center, Writing Center and Academic Center for Excellence. It describes online and in-person help for selected subjects and writing support. Some other services in that directory have specific membership or application conditions.

For a student with evening cricket, check whether a course-support session and a practice compete for the same time before the week becomes crowded. The point is to use actual university resources, not promise that a cricket schedule will automatically work with every course.

Before you pick up your kit

  • Confirm whether the listed indoor practice times apply this term.
  • Establish the equipment, registration and access requirements for that activity.
  • Ask separately about leather-ball competition and indoor recreational opportunities.
  • Check the current intramural entry position instead of assuming a past deadline can be ignored.

UIC’s published information gives students several concrete leads. Keeping its formats, calendars and participation routes separate is how those leads become a useful plan to keep playing in Chicago.
