Ohio State’s college cricketers finished one run short of a place in the 2026 NCCA Week 2 final. For high-school players wondering whether their cricket can continue at university, that narrow margin points to a story worth exploring in Columbus.
The Ohio State University lists a Cricket Club through Recreational Sports. A separate Buckeye Indoor Cricket Club also appears in its student-organization directory. Together, these listings give prospective students more than one cricket contact to investigate—although the clubs have different membership arrangements.
A semifinal decided by one run
The National College Cricket Association’s published Week 2 results show Ohio State winning all three Group D matches before beating UT Austin in the quarterfinals at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Texas.
In the March 22 semifinal, Northeastern made 105 for eight. Ohio State finished on 104 for nine, losing by one run. The table records the two knockout matches reported by the organizer.
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Date | Stage / opponent | Ohio State | Opponent | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| March 21, 2026 | Quarterfinal / UT Austin | 154/6 | 124/7 | Won by 30 runs |
| March 22, 2026 | Semifinal / Northeastern | 104/9 | 105/8 | Lost by one run |
The NCCA also provides recordings of the UT Austin quarterfinal and Northeastern semifinal. These are organizer-published match videos, not links to full scorecard tables.
That run demonstrates competitive college cricket at Ohio State. It should not be turned into a national ranking or a guarantee that an incoming student will make the team.
Where the cricket club fits on campus
Ohio State’s current Recreational Sports directory lists the Cricket Club and its public contact, CricketClub@osu.edu.
The university explains that its sport clubs are not NCAA-affiliated teams. This distinction matters for families familiar with American varsity athletics: a club’s intercollegiate results do not establish a varsity recruitment process or a cricket scholarship offer.
For a prospective student, the club email is a useful first step. Ask how a new undergraduate can attend a session, when the next intake occurs and what opportunities exist outside the traveling match squad.
What the published membership rules tell us
A Fall 2025 club constitution hosted by Ohio State describes participation for full-time students, faculty, staff and active Rec Sports members. It calls for DoSportsEasy registration before practices or competition, payment of dues and regular attendance.
The document also describes a selection process for tournament teams and a membership window during the first month of each semester. These are published organizational rules, not a confirmed announcement of the next tryout. Ask the club which procedures and dates apply to the current season.
General eligibility and a competitive playing place are separate questions. Students should establish both before making plans around a particular tournament.
A separate indoor cricket option
The university’s Buckeye Indoor Cricket Club listing describes a Columbus organization focused on access to cricket and campus community. The listing marks membership as open, identifies its primary makeup as graduate students and says it does not charge dues.
However, that listing includes 2025–26 material, and when we checked it on October 17, 2026, it showed the organization’s status as pending. Prospective members should confirm current activity, eligibility and any costs directly rather than treating the directory as a new-season offer. In particular, its no-dues entry must not be applied to the separate Recreational Sports Cricket Club.
The listing’s organization email is budhathoki.3@osu.edu. If a listed contact is out of date, Ohio State Student Activities can help identify the current organization leadership.
What to ask before joining
A competitive result is an encouraging starting point. The everyday arrangements will determine whether the opportunity works alongside a student’s degree.
- Entry and playing level: Can a first-year student attend an introductory practice? How are tournament squads selected, and what play is available to other members?
- Training: Where are sessions held, how often do they run and what changes between indoor and outdoor play?
- Full costs: What are the current dues, and are travel, accommodation, tournament fees or equipment charged separately?
- Participation: What opportunities are available for beginners and women, and which eligibility rules apply to each competition?
- Study commitments: How does the match calendar fit around classes, exams and travel time?
No current fee amount, full practice timetable or 2026–27 tournament calendar for the competitive club was verified for this guide. Confirm those directly before arranging a visit or committing money.
Cricket can be part of the college conversation
For a young player, university does not have to mark the end of organized cricket. Ohio State offers a documented club contact and a recent example of students competing deep into a national collegiate tournament.
The next step is practical: contact the club and ask about the experience available to an incoming student. Consider those answers alongside academic fit and the total cost of college.
