College cricket series, part 2. Part 1 looked at UC Irvine’s cricket club. More campuses are coming in our Parent Guides. Know a college with a cricket club? Email youthcricketusa@gmail.com.
For a young cricketer choosing a Texas university, the question goes beyond whether cricket exists on campus. Can a first-year student join? Is there regular practice? How does a player earn a competitive place, and what will a season actually cost?
This guide compares five universities using public university information and clearly identified club sources checked on October 16, 2026. Academic fit and affordability should remain central to a college decision. Cricket is another part of campus life to investigate.
Texas college cricket at a glance
These are different kinds of opportunities. The table describes what the available sources establish; it does not rank the universities.
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| University | What is documented | Starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Texas A&M — College Station | Rec Sports cricket listing, national titles reported for 2024 and 2026, published semester dues. | Aggie Cricket Club’s university listing and club contact. |
| UT Dallas — Richardson | 2026 second-leg NCCA champion; the university says the club operates outside UREC’s formal Club Sports program. | Ask specifically for the Comet Cricket Club’s current joining route. |
| UT Austin — Austin | Texas Cricket Club listing and club-published Fall 2026 meeting and membership links. | HornsLink and the club’s public links page. |
| UT Arlington — Arlington | Cricket listed through Campus Recreation, plus a dedicated field with a concrete pitch. | Campus Recreation and the current MavOrgs listing. |
| UNT — Denton | Discovery Park lists cricket equipment. A current intercollegiate team was not verified in this review. | UNT Rec Sports and Discovery Park student affairs. |
Texas A&M: an established club with published dues
Texas A&M’s Rec Sports directory lists cricket as a sport club founded in 1999, welcomes students across skill levels and reports NCCA national championships in 2024 and 2026. Its August 20, 2026 season review independently reports the 2026 title as the club’s second national championship in three years.
The directory publishes dues of $36 per semester, for spring and fall. That is the listed club fee, not a verified total for travel, accommodation, tournament entry or personal equipment. Ask for a full season budget before comparing costs with another university.
The university’s Aggie Cricket Club profile includes undergraduate, professional and graduate students and directs prospective members toward sport-club registration. The directory’s cricket contact is aggiecricketclub@gmail.com. Confirm current intake dates, practice arrangements and competitive selection directly.
UT Dallas: recent success and a distinct joining route
UT Dallas’s April 15, 2026 championship report records a two-run win over Northeastern on March 22 at Prairie View Cricket Complex. The Comet Cricket Club went undefeated in the tournament’s 16-team second leg, following a championship win the previous year.
The same report makes an important administrative distinction: the club is outside University Recreation’s formal Club Sports program. Families should ask for the Comet Cricket Club specifically rather than assuming that general UREC club registration covers it.
Three freshmen were part of the reshaped championship squad. The report also describes practices in Frisco or Plano, illustrating why students should ask about transport as well as training. Those are accounts of that team’s season, not a confirmed timetable or selection promise for incoming students.
Current dues, tryout dates and the next season’s practice venues were not established in this review.
UT Austin: follow the current student-club channels
Texas Cricket Club has a HornsLink organization page. Its club-published links page also provides a membership-form link, a Fall 2026 general-meeting document and a club GroupMe link.
These are useful starting points for students seeking a cricket community. The links page is maintained by the club, rather than hosted by the university. Confirm the current officers and arrangements through the university listing before submitting personal details.
Ask what separates general membership, recreational games and selection for intercollegiate matches. This review did not establish current dues, a regular practice venue or a complete 2026–27 competition schedule.
UT Arlington: a documented cricket facility
UTA’s Fields Complex page identifies a dedicated cricket field with a concrete pitch at 1100 Maverick in Arlington. That gives prospective players a specific facility to ask about during a campus visit.
The university’s Sport Clubs page lists cricket and directs students to MavOrgs for currently active organizations. Campus Recreation can help establish the current club contact.
A facility listing does not establish team availability, a reserved training slot or free access for every visitor. Request the current practice schedule, eligibility, dues and match calendar. Do not treat an older practice page as the upcoming season’s timetable.
UNT: recreational support confirmed; team details still to establish
At the University of North Texas in Denton, Discovery Park’s student-affairs page lists cricket equipment among its recreational resources.
That confirms a cricket-related campus resource. It does not, by itself, confirm an active intercollegiate team, tournament entry or regular coached training. We did not verify those arrangements from current public sources.
Prospective students should contact UNT Rec Sports and Discovery Park student affairs to ask about current student organizations and recreational play. Missing public documentation should not be read as proof that no cricket group exists.
Ask every college the same questions
A trophy shows what a particular team achieved. Your decision also needs to account for the everyday experience available to you.
- Joining and selection: Can first-year students attend practice? Is general membership separate from the match squad? When are trials?
- Playing opportunities: What is available for beginners, experienced players and women? Are there recreational games as well as representative matches?
- Facilities and transport: Where does the team actually train, on which surface, and how do students get there?
- Total costs: What do dues cover? Who pays for travel, accommodation, equipment and tournament entry?
- Time and eligibility: How do fixtures fit around classes and exams? Which current competition rules apply?
For families comparing college cricket in Texas, the most useful next step is a conversation with the current club officers, followed by a practice visit if available. Ask for the upcoming calendar and full budget, then consider those answers alongside the degree program and total cost of attendance.
