Los Angeles scored 164 before holding Washington to 163 for nine. Sunil Narine was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series after helping deliver the title in a final decided on the last ball.
For young cricketers in the United States, the bigger story extends beyond the result.
The 2026 season brought top-level cricket to American venues including Grand Prairie, Oakland and the new Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Pomona, California. Every additional professional venue, local match and visible cricket franchise makes the sport easier for American children to discover.
Young players can now watch elite T20 cricket in their own communities, study how professionals prepare and see a clearer connection between academy cricket, domestic competition and the highest levels of the game.
The Pomona development is especially important. The Southern California venue opened during the 2026 season, with plans that include an academy and expanded capacity. With cricket returning to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028, infrastructure and youth development in California will receive even greater attention.
MLC should not replace youth cricket’s focus on fundamentals, longer innings and patient skill development. But it can provide something equally valuable: visibility and aspiration.
A child who watches a professional match in Texas, California or elsewhere in the United States can now imagine cricket as part of American sporting life—not merely a game played somewhere overseas.
The 2026 championship is finished. Its influence on America’s next generation is only beginning.
